Castletopdolls Maryland cattery

Castletopdolls Maryland Ragdoll cattery By Heather Kerns

Hi,
My name is Heather Kens. I breed beautiful Ragdoll cats and produce kittens that are soft floppy and very loving. Being a breeder since 2002 I learned so much about the breed and find that they are my favorite and so human like. They follow there owners around too and act more like a dog they even can be trained to fetch and chase. Being a very laid back breed they love to flop down and one must be careful not to just drop there ragdoll some will flop right on the floor anc could get hurt I would say they are more like a baby then a cat and they have a loud rare sounding meow.

Neutered males can reach up to 25 pounds and Female spays 20 pounds the common weight though is 10-20 pounds once full grown and it takes 3 years for full growth to be achieved the woman who started the breed is Ann baker of CA who passed away in 1996 I try and breed the original Ann baker look as a tribute to her. I never met her but would have loved to.

My lines are mostly older and traditional some I have are slightly newer I breed mainly for health being number one and then personality and size number two. Most of our breeders are either 100% perfectly marked or very close to it I try to put personality and size above markings however but when it comes to showing I and most breeders will need the whole package to final as a Champion cat. Judges look for perfect markings or close, they look for floppiness as well as eye color, coat and size but most of all a calm personality is important to even be liked by any judge first among any other thing. The colors of the Ragdoll are
Seal
Blue
Lilac
Flame
Chocolate
Tortie
Cream

They can come in these patterns
Bicolor
mitted
pointed

Lynx Lynx is actually a pattern added to the patterns above in some Ragdolls they can be bicolor and lynx and so on.

Ragdolls have a very different coat type it is more like a cotton ball or silk. When you touch a Ragdoll you will feel the difference it is not course at all but like rabbit fur. These cats do not shed much and never mat up hardly at all. They only need to be brushed if they mat up. Most breeders and owners do like to groom them though a few times a month just to keep it looking perfect.

Ragdolls are a quiet breed males are slightly more vocal then females. They meow very little unless want something or are hungry. They are content to be alone but not for more then 8 hours a day unless with another cat. They love everyone even children and Dogs they are very tolerant even of young children but adults must be sure to show kids how to handle them because they are so easygoing they will get hurt easy and not show pain until its to late. Good for the elderly and for all owners. This breed does prefer a quieter environment and will not tolerate screaming and fighting will send it into hiding. They do not however mind music or activity and are just very tolerant of all life styles as long as they are used to it.

I socialize my kittens with people and other cats and even dogs so when you get a ragdoll from me it will likely not be afraid of dogs but you must be sure your dog will except it this breed is very friendly and will walk right up to a pit bull and could very well get killed. Some ragdolls are a little less friendly though and will fear dogs. Most can get used to them with time.

More coming soon
